{"id":3931,"date":"2023-11-22T16:23:33","date_gmt":"2023-11-22T22:23:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tuvmag.com\/?p=3931"},"modified":"2023-11-22T16:44:23","modified_gmt":"2023-11-22T22:44:23","slug":"meet-the-community-advisory-board-of-emory-compass-initiative-coordinating-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tuvmag.com\/index.php\/2023\/11\/22\/meet-the-community-advisory-board-of-emory-compass-initiative-coordinating-center\/","title":{"rendered":"MEET THE COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD OF EMORY COMPASS INITIATIVE COORDINATING CENTER"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">LET THE COMMUNITY LEAD<\/h3>\n<p>TUV MAGAZINE IS CELEBRATING THEIR ANNUAL 8TH WORLD AIDS DAY ANNIVERSARY ISSUE! \u201cLET THE COMMUNITY LEAD\u201d is the title of this issue which pays homage to the lives of individuals living and thriving positively as well as those who are on the battlefields advocating to end the HIV epidemic.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, Blacks\/African Americans represented 13% of the US population, but they represent 40% of people with HIV. Hispanics\/Latinos represented 18.5% of the population, but 25% of people with HIV.<\/p>\n<p>Now that we&#8217;ve have gotten all of the technical information out of the way let&#8217;s talk about why this theme is important.\u00a0 \u201cLet Communities Lead\u201d is important because of the financial support, decision making, grant process, etc.; in the fight against the HIV\/AIDS epidemic.\u00a0 It&#8217;s an unpopular conversation that is known quite well for those who work and serve in the HIV Community. This has been a rally cry that funders need to hear if they really wanted to make to see lasting change. Once the funders commit to this mission then the real community efforts can begin to help end the HIV\/AIDs epidemic in the communities that are suffering the most.\u00a0 Community leadership promotes a sense of belonging, equity and pride in the community that are most vulnerable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe fact that the Southern Region of the U.S. is still being directly impacted with the highest rates of HIV new diagnosis in 2023 is unacceptable.\u201d The fact that HIV is still rising in the South means that \u201cSEX\u201d should not be an anomaly in our society\u201d _ Gwendolyn D. Clemons, CEO of Relationship Unleashed, Editor-in-Chief of TUV Magazine\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>WHAT IS WORLD AIDS DAY?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>World AIDS Day was the first observed in 1988 and has now expanded into a global health day. World AIDS Day takes place on 1 December each year. It\u2019s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. Each year, organizations and individuals across the world bring attention to the HIV epidemic, endeavor to increase HIV awareness and knowledge, speak out against HIV stigma, and call for an increased response to move toward\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiv.gov\/federal-response\/ending-the-hiv-epidemic\/overview\"><i>Ending the HIV Epidemic in the U.S.<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3813\" src=\"https:\/\/tuvmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/World-Aids-Day-Logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"174\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>On the Cover:<\/strong> <\/em>Meet the staff of <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Emory COMPASS Coordinating Center of the Gilead COMPASS Initiative\u00ae engages a nine-member community advisory board (CAB) to facilitate the development, evaluation, and refinement of the Center\u2019s community-led grantmaking and capacity building initiative for HIV service organizations in the U.S. South. Emory COMPASS Center\u2019s purpose of convening and collaborating with a CAB is to ensure that the Center\u2019s work is guided by subject-matter experts that represent the communities and populations that the Center serves.
